Costa Rica Recovery has a fully credentialed professional staff in the fields of psychiatry, neuro-and clinical psychology, general medicine, and addiction counseling. We are a non-profit organization whose goal is to direct our funding to support treatment, after-care, and ancillary services. Because of this we are able to provide our services at a lower cost than many other treatment programs, both in the United States and other countries.
We help our patients learn effective means to cope with real world stress without the use of drugs or alcohol. We do this by gradually giving patients more freedom and movement and less supervision as they meet the goals of their treatment plan and demonstrate an increased capacity for responsible behavior.
We view treatment as the beginning of a life-long process of recovery based on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous (AA/NA) supported by our professional staff and volunteers. The treatment process itself is based in the Minnesota Model, which has been tried and tested since 1949. Costa Rica Recovery is a community rather than an institution. We all learn through self-examination and through living a new way of life. In that sense, we are working together, and residents (clients) in our program are expected to learn how to live by behaving in a responsible, mature way — by doing their “chores” and participating fully in counseling and other sessions.
We have individualized treatment plans based on psychological, physical, cognitive, and behavioral observations and evaluations. We provide daily transportation to AA/NA meetings to give residents examples of how to stay clean and sober by members in sobriety. Active membership is strongly encouraged, and each resident is expected to obtain a Sponsor (mentor, or guide) to help them bridge the gap from treatment, to after-care, to a full return to their own community.Treatment as the beginning of a life-process involves more than just counseling or therapy sessions. For that reason, we provide a wide variety of activities, such as Yoga, and a daily hour at the gymnasium, with volunteer assistance from a personal trainer. The swimming pool at our facility is available for use during free time, and occasional access to the Internet as well as telephone calls are available when appropriate.
We recognize that stopping the drug and alcohol is only the first step in a long process of rehabilitation,
